A WASHINGTON TRADITION
Weschler's has been an auction tradition in the Nation's capital since Adam Weschler opened a gallery just a few blocks from the White House in 1890.
The fourth and fifth generations of Weschler family members continue to uphold the principles on which Adam Weschler founded his company -- that the client's interests should remain above all others. To ensure this, Adam Weschler resolved that the company would neither buy nor own any of the items it sold at auction. We maintain this same policy today and act solely as a representative for the buyer or seller.
As Washington D.C.'s only auction house, Weschler's has been in the unique position to auction over the years such treasures as a first edition of Thomas Paine's 1776 Common Sense, furniture from the office of former House Speaker Sam Rayburn, and memorabilia from General Douglas MacArthur.
Today Weschler's holds specialized sales from September to May in the following categories: Jewelry, Coins and Watches; American and European Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture and Prints; Asian Works of Art; Twentieth Century Decorative Works of Art; European and American Furniture and Decorations.
Weschler's also holds weekly auctions every Tuesday that complement our catalogue sales by offering a wide variety of non-specialized items at moderate prices.
