Bill McLane
is a native New Englander, born in Massachusetts in 1951 and raised in the small town of Swansea, near Fall River. Following a family tradition, he has been painting since the age of 16 and he has a son who is also an accomplished artist.
Searching for apprenticeship in the style of the Old Masters, he found little discipline at American Art Schools in the 1980’s. This led him to seek teachers who would enable him to understand the importance of light and form. His search took him to Munich, Germany, where he studied in private ateliers. There he learned the styles and techniques necessary for traditional application and the style of the old masters.
Bill lived on the small island of Martha’s Vineyard for nearly 20 years. He moved to California in 2008 with his 2 teenage daughters after reconnecting with his high school sweetheart after 37 years. They now live in the quiet Delta town of Clarksburg.
In Martha’s Vineyard, he focused on his talent as a landscape and seascape artist, which catered to the local tourists. Now here in California, he is expanding on his still-lifes, and other new styles of painting. He is a multi-talented artist, as you will easily see in the variety of his works.
His work is appreciated by many and he has a loyal following of collectors. His work has been shown and collected in Germany, France, Australia and throughout the United States.
