Introduction to Tuscany Books
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Tuscany Books and our merchandise. We are a small family-owned business and have been in the book business for over twenty-five years. There are two family members who mainly run our business.One business partner is a retired professor who taught languages and literature for many years at the University of Illinois and at Brandeis University. He acts as the buyer for the business. The other business partner is an attorney and handles all on-line selling and customer contact. While in college, she had the opportunity to work for one summer at one of the foremost rare book auction houses in Europe.

Our History, Philosophy & Merchandise
Over 30 years ago, our buyer started collecting historical autographs, and later began collecting and selling other items. To obtain our items, he travels extensively. In the past we have also sold on ebay under seller names "hft," and "hft1" as well as "tuscanybooks." Please see the feedback for those seller names also, if you wish.We deal in rare books, prints and maps with a special emphasis on color-plate books before 1870. All of our items are original prints or manuscripts; we carry no reproductions whatsoever. Quality is our priority - we are very particular about the quality of our items and the condition of the items at the time of acquisition. We do not try to clean, repair or otherwise process our merchandise after purchase.
In our ebay listings, a concerted effort is made to describe and picture items accurately. We tend towards over-describing flaws because it is important to us that the customer is happy with the purchase. Since we deal only in high-quality merchandise, we will gladly accept our items back, provided the items are in the same condition as at the time of purchase and we are notified of the customer's intent to return within 7 days after the customer receives the merchandise.
Just a note about our customers and feedback: We thoroughly enjoy selling on ebay and the vast majority of our customers are fantastic! However, unfortunately, it is not possible to please everyone. We take our business and the feedback we receive very seriously and (knock on wood) so far have received almost all positive feedback, *** about which we are very happy! Unfortunately there is a small fraction of bidders who apparently do not want to be satisfied. We have had transactions in which we lost money in an effort to please or at least placate the person and yet still could not do so.
Since customer satisfaction is of great importance to us, we work hard to ensure that no customer comes out of a transaction with us feeling disgruntled. We happily take our merchandise back however even this does not satisfy some people. Or in other situations, the bidder insists on retaining the merchandise even though we would much rather have it returned since the bidder has stated he is unhappy with it. In either case, even more importantly to us, the result is that we are then left to wonder whether that person will leave feedback less than positive and thereby harm our business. Therefore we see no alternative but to block the occasional "difficult customer" from bidding on future auctions so we will not put ourselves in the same position again. The moral of the story is if you have any issue or concern, please do me the courtesy of letting me know via email and giving me a chance to rectify the situation ... or call me at (760) 751-9813. Do not let me learn of your dissatisfaction through public non-positive feedback!

Customer Contact
In the past we have exhibited at many antique shows, including the world-famous huge outdoor show in Brimfield, Massachusetts which is held three times per year. We exhibited at all three shows, each year, for over 10 years, when we were located on the east coast. Now we are located on the west coast and exhibit occasionally at rare book shows. We will list any shows at which we are exhibiting below.If you are selling any items you think we may be interested in or if we can be of any service to you, please do not hesitate to contact us. Also if you are looking for something specific, please let us know. We have much more inventory than is reflected in our ebay listings. If you are looking for some very unique item, we may be able to act as an agent for you since we have many opportunities to buy spectacular items. It is a pleasure for us to meet people with the same interests, and who can appreciate our merchandise.
