Here is a little bit about us.....
My name is Maury Lubman, I am a 57 year old antique addict, formerly a photographer, teacher,caterer and pre-med student. All but the pre med status, was simultaneous to owning Grannys Attic. I used to work all day as a teacher and open my store at 5, close at nine, go on house calls to buy things, then return home and mark papers.It wasnt easy, but it was fun. When we started in 1966, rare treasures were still found in attics.Granny's Attic started out as a part time business when I was 23..I was a teacher and wanted to make a little extra money so I could by a house. Our first store was 14x16..our giant Historial Silk Mill in Paterson NJ is almost 1000 times as large..it is a block long and has three floors. We also have another 4000 sqft store in Mahwah NJ....we sell anything from estate contents to museum quality: furniture, art and collectibles. We go to Europe 4 times a year to collect wonderful things not available in AMerica... As could can imagine, we are very addicted to the business and enjoy what we do, although...it has gotten so much more difficult because of programs such as the ANtiques Road show...making everyone think anything in their attic is priceless.Some of my vacation time is spent in Europe finding auctions where I can buy things and ship them home to make my customers(and me ) happy. In 1981, I graduated from the Missouri auction school and became my own auctioneer. Up to that time, I had to rely on hired auctioneers to do my sales and always worried what would happen if they didnt show!! You can access our website: www.grannysatticnj.com.
