My name is Phil Demke, I am 54 years old and I live in Plainfield, Vermont, about 15 minutes outside of Montpelier. I am a full-time dealer in books and antiques, and I sell out of 2 group shops in northern Vermont -- 1829 House on Rte. 15 in Jeffersonville, and Grakles Antiques in Barre VT. I have been collecting and selling books and antiques for over 30 years, and have been at it fully self-employed for about seven years or so. Although this field has gone through a lot of major changes in the last decade, it is my delight and great pleasure to work in the antiques business. Ebay has been a new and terrific market for me, and I have met many dedicated collectors and interesting folks on line as a result... It is a demanding job, but it is also very enjoyable, and I learn new things all the time. I also get to own and sell some very beautiful and scarce items in many fields of collecting... Who could ask for better than that? MY HOME My first love is old photographs, and I sell a wide variety of these on Ebay, from early tintypes and cdv's all the way to snapshots from the 50's and 60's. I'm also pretty wild for children's antiquarian books and good literature and poetry from the early part of the 20th century. When it comes to old paper and ephemera, I'm quite fond of Victorian trade cards, old advertising items, vintage postcards (especially embossed and pre-1915), and historical items. I have a keen eye for both the aesthetic and the unusual, and I work very hard to find things that are scarce and different -- I don't enjoy selling what lots of other people are selling too. I like items that are off-beat and hard-to-find. I never sell anything I wouldn't mind owning, and I always make every attempt to note any flaws in a piece that I am listing. Generally I try to list items with a starting bid of $9.99 or less and no reserve -- the only exceptions are if I am selling off an item that I have originally paid more than $9.99 for, and then I will usually use a starting bid or, more rarely, a reserve that will at least get me my money back. I  ship via first class or priority mail to the continental US only, though I will make exceptions if you email me first. And I pride myself on shipping most items within 48 hours of receiving payment (see my feedback!). Thanks for checking me out -- and be sure to visit my eBay store!
